Phenyl Ethyl Alcohol

The GMP Phenyl Ethyl Alcohol Multi-Compendial that A&C creates satisfies the most exacting standards for Quality, Safety, Purity, and Suitability in Pharmaceutical Applications.

What is Phenyl Ethyl Alcohol?

Phenyl Ethyl Alcohol, sometimes referred to as 2-phenylethanol or phenethyl alcohol, is a colorless, aromatic, slightly viscous liquid fragrance that occurs naturally in a wide variety of essential oils found in nature, including hyacinth, rose, and carnation. Because of its lovely scent, antimicrobial qualities, and low toxicity, it is frequently used in cosmetics, fragrances, and pharmaceuticals. Commercial production of this colorless, synthetic molecule is achieved through the Friedel-Crafts reaction between ethylene oxide and benzene. We call it the scent of roses.

Is there an issue with Phenyl Ethyl Alcohol of commercial grade?

Most commercial phenol ethyl alcohol is meant to be used as a flavoring or in perfumes and cosmetics. Because of its beneficial activity and superior toxicity profile, phenyl ethyl alcohol is used in significantly larger quantities for these purposes than for medicinal purposes. Nevertheless, the majority of commercial grades are not produced using sufficient GMPs for the pharmaceutical industry. In fact, our experience (from inspecting our supplier network) has shown that even GMP sources may engage in down-packing or other supply chain procedures that fall short of our standards for the excipient GMPs mandated by the pharmaceutical sector.

A&C manufactures two high purity GMP grades of Phenyl Ethyl Alcohol

Using the same exclusive fractional process, A&C produces two grades of this product, yielding a high purity Phenyl Ethyl Alcohol with an excellent impurity profile (very low aldehydes and chlorinated compounds), and all manufacturing processes complying with appropriate GMPs for use in pharmaceutical applications.

A&C takes pride in its stringent control measures, as seen by its ISO 9001:2015 and EXCiPACT quality certifications, Drug Establishment license from Health Canada for API manufacture, and frequent audits from both the US FDA and Health Canada.
We think you should give A&C’s product serious thought if your company uses phenyl ethyl alcohol for a pharmaceutical application so you can be sure it is made “start-to-finish” to satisfy your GMP regulations.
